Let’s talk about the WHYS!!
WHY is important to take a whole new look at fitness after we have babies?
WHY should we look towards improving the global health of our whole system before we expect weight loss to occur?
WHY should we say NO to conventional “kids'” processed food and YES to feeding them real whole food from the very beginning?
How can these why’s improved our health as moms? We all worked very hard to have our babies. We each have our own set of values and desires for our lives as moms. We each have our own strengths that help mold our lives as moms. Each of us is unique in our approach, but we all have two things in common:
As babies grow into toddlers and toddlers grow into young children (that is where I am) there is A LOT to manage as a mom!! I have finally accepted that I cannot manage it all. And FINALLY, I am ok with that! For the things that I do not have a lot of experience with, I have looked to learn from others who do. That way I can grow as a mom and continue to help my kids.
My goal is to add value to your motherhood experience by giving you an extra edge when it comes to nutrition and fitness. Two non-negotiable as a mom!
Let’s look at the whys!
WHY is important to take a whole new look at fitness after we have babies?
Our bodies are different after having babies. Organs are shifted into a new position, our breathing patterns are altered and proprioception is different. We must approach training with the goal of reintegrating as the primary focus. At least for a period of time, this is a broadly perfect goal that serves to improve global function. Once we feel reconnected, then we can start looking to optimize movement needs for motherhood, positions that we don’t typically look towards as necessary in a traditional fitness approach. With this approach, it won’t take long to realize we are actually improving performance and moving towards a more specific common goal of most moms: improving body composition.
WHY should we look towards improving the global health of our whole system before we expect weight loss to occur?
In order for our bodies to shed extra weight, we must be healthy enough for that to occur. Sure, you can lose weight from challenges or a cleanse but it will not last. Many times you break your metabolism down in the process. Fundamental health must be achieved for long-lasting weight loss to occur. Hormone health, great sleep, gut health which include nutrient absorption and hydration are a couple of big rocks to start with. So, relax on the calorie counting and look for optimizing sleep and hydration first. Are you eating real food or are you eating low fat/low sugar products which are negatively affecting your gut health? More information to come on this soon!!
WHY should we say NO to conventional “kids'” processed food and YES to feeding them real whole food from the very beginning?
This WHY just makes sense in the early years, starting with feeding yourself if you are able to breastfeed. Your baby is essentially eating what you eat. Choosing real whole foods during the nursing years not only begins to set up their microbiome for the rest of their lives but also their taste preference.
When your baby starts eating solid foods, going with simple Whole Foods like fruits and vegetables, soft meats, fish and egg yolk is a great way to steer clear of refined highly palatable puffs, cookies, and crackers. Again, it feeds a healthy gut flora and also establishes good eating habits.
When it comes to feeding toddlers to young children… here is when you have a HUGE opportunity to educate and share the importance of real food. What YOU bring into the house is what YOUR kids will eat! That is so empowering because the ball is in your court to establish values.
After kindergarten here, there is a big shift in influence as school and social pressures begin to play a role. SOOO... that makes our job as Mom even more important to continue to reinforce the value and importance of real food as it connects with our kids. More on this in another post!!
Just think what WE as MOMS could do together if we all stood together and made these WHY’S come to life? How would that change your world? Would these why’s make it more empowering for you?
